The Joys of Foot Reflexology

Give it a try, but get a good practitioner!

I'm not a huge follower of the esoteric arts, but I've definitely found a friend in reflexology, a form of shiatsu that focuses on your feet.

I first became acquainted with it when I was watching television one night and and a local channel did a segment on alternative therapies. Reflexology was covered, and it caught my attention--especially when it was touted as a means of reducing stress and alleviating tension.

So I got in touch with Margo Massoud Marver, a shiatsu therapist who currently lives and works in Portland, Oregon. She spent an hour on my feet, and it wiped away weeks of stress, sleeplessness, and tension.

Briefly, reflexology operates on the principle that the body is a nexus of interconnected channels. Certain areas of your feet correspond to certain organs or body parts. Ms. Marver stunned me by ascertaining weaknesses in my right eye, my lungs and bronchial tubes that I had at the time by pressing specific areas of my feet. Continued pressure on these areas has a rejuvenating effect on these organs and body parts. It can at times be painful, but the vitality it can bring you is well worth it.
