Position
I taught
both Middle School and High School Theater Arts classes at the Colegio
Internacional de Caracas in Venezuela. In addition, I also directed
theatrical performances as part of the curriculum.
Curriculum
I taught
three Middle School drama classes per semester. One was made up exclusively
of 6th graders and the other two were a mix of 7th and 8th graders.
At the end of the semester, all students participated in a public performance
showcasing their mimed skits, monologues, dialogues, poetry recitations,
and playlets. These classes followed the curriculum prescribed by the
International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program.
I taught
two secondary level theater arts classes as well. High School Drama
(9th/10th graders) was also a skills-based class which incorporated
dramatic theory. Students in this class participated in a number of
productions. In February, 2002, my students competed in a number of
events at the First Annual Forensics Tournament in Venezuela and came
back with 1st and 3rd place trophies for Readers Theater, 2nd place
for Duet Acting, and Finalist Medals for Improvisation. In May, they
performed a number of one-act plays for the school's Festival of Arts.
I also
taught a Theater Arts course as part of the International Baccalaureate
Program. This students in this class (11th and 12th graders) studied
in-depth two major plays (Sophocle's "Oedipus Rex" and Samuel
Beckett's "Waiting for Godot"), two theorists (Stanislovsky
and Laban), and a variety of vocal and characterization techniques.
In April, they directed and performed Michael Cristofer's Pulitizer
Prize winning drama "The Shadow Box."
